As much as we love puppies, something must be done about the rampant breeding going on in Kern County and other areas..  There are over 100 puppies (unweaned or very young) in the Bakersfield shelter as I type this.  There are not enough foster homes for them all.  Many will start and end their lives in a concrete run.  The momma dogs do their best, only to watch as their pups are taken away to die, and then, they too lose their lives.

The dogs on this page are lucky, they will be allowed to raise their families in a secure, quiet location with plenty of food & love.  The pups will recieve proper vaccinations and then will be spayed/neutered (as will their moms) so they will not contribute to the over population problem.

Please spay and neuter.  Thank you.
Our Nursery
Alice was a long time stray.  She lived on the streets in Delano California for close to 2 years.  She had a litter of puppies that were discovered & captured.  The Delano police tried in vain to catch her as well.  When they couldn't, they euthanized her entire litter rather than have them be raised "wild".

After her pups were taken and killed, Alice became even more leery of people.  She finally started accepting food from a Pastor at a local church.  She wouldn't come near him, but would eat the food that he left.  With the help of a "live trap", he managed to catch Alice.

He took her to the Delano Animal Shelter.  3 days later she gave birth to 4 puppies.  One of the rescuers I work with discovered her there & pulled her & the pups & brought them to us.   The pups birthday is April 12th 2007.  They will stay with us another 6 weeks & then will be spayed or neutered.  They will have recieved 3 sets of shots & will be microchipped & ready to find new homes.

Then, Alice will also be spayed & she will start her quest for a permanant home.
We have no idea who the daddy is... but Alice is very small & we assume the pups will be small too (under 20 pounds).
The Bakersfield Animal Shelter asked us to foster this family.  Sassy was seized on a suspected animal cruelty charge & will not be able to be placed in a new home until the case has gone to trial AND the suspect is found guilty.  The pups were born in the shelter & came here when they were 3 days old.

We did get permanant custody of Sassy & her puppies.  The pups have all been spayed/neutered and adopted into loving homes.

Sassy was taken by a Veterinarian & is undergoing some physical Therapy.  She will have surgery if needed.
Border Collies!
Eva & Sandra are (we think) Queensland Heeler mixes.  Their appoximate birthdate is around May 7th 2007
Matthew is also likely a Queensland mix... He is about 1 week older than "the girls" putting his birthday around May 1, 2007
Taffy (left) and Licorice (right) are likely beagle/dachsund mixes.  They are about 2 weeks older than Matthew, so their birthdate is around April 15th, 2007
Chasmo has been adopted!!!  He is the first of the pups to find a home!
