Daisy is doing her part to help our Dogs!  Daisy was also an older dog that found a good home thanks to rescue.  Now she is helping other senior dogs with her good example!  Please click on Daisy's picture to go to our donation page.  Even a small donation of $5 will help defray medical costs associated with many of the dogs we take in.
We will be taking a break from Petco during the month of December, but you can visit us here at the ranch to see our dogs!

Thank you to all the wonderful familes that have given our dogs wonderful homes!
Little Miss Muffet sat on her Tuffet,
waiting in a cage
Looking for someone to give her some Loveit
and take her far away!
Miss Muffet is paralysed.  We don't know how she got that way, we only know that she was abandoned in an  animal shelter where she sat in her own urine & feces, unable to move for 5 days.  She developed severe bed sores & her entire bottom was scalded by her own urine.

In spite of all this, her basic health was good & x-rays showed no broken bones.
Our volunteer was made to wait 2 hours before they would release Miss Muffet to us.  They didn't even bother to clean the urine or feces off of her before handing her over.   The shelter was not responsible for her paralysis... but they sure didn't do
much to make her comfortable either.  We long for the day that animal shelters truely are a place that "shelter" animals.
On first presentation to our vet, Miss Muffet was x-rayed & her basic health was checked out.  We had already cleaned up up and the vet indicated that the bedsores would take a while to heal, but with good hygene & some diaper rash ointment, the urine scalding would quickly heal.  We also determined that Miss Muffet had no pain sensation in her back limbs.   (so at least she wasn't feeling any pain from the deep bed sores)

We were extremely fortunate to be able to obtain a cart for her the day after we got her from the shelter.    Linda Winsor, of Cambria California donated a dog cart that was just the right size!   She had purchased it for her Jack Russel, Faye, who has passed away.  She was delighted that Faye's cart could go to help our Miss Muffet.   The change in Muffet was amazing once she got her "wheels"   She brightened up, and ran in delighted circles around us!   We could tell that she had been an extremely active dog...  how delightful to be able to run just about anywhere she wanted to go!

When she went back to the vet for her 1 week check up, the vet was delighted at her overall attitude.  She had also gained an entire pound!   The urine scalding was gone & one bed sore was healed, but the deepest one remains.

Miss Muffet is getting regular massages, donated by dog massage & energy healer Elyse McMasters of Templeton California.  We are pleased to announce that Miss Muffet is now able to move her thighs & is also able to balance on all four legs when we set them up for her (this makes putting on her diaper much easier).  She is not yet close to walking unaided, and perhaps she never will walk again, but we will continue her therapy & hope that there is a person out there that would love to have this sweet funny wonderful little girl as their companion for the rest of her life.
Miss Muffet is now MOVING both of her back legs!  While in her wheel chair, she can walk with both back legs if she is moving slowly.  In addition, she can stand with very little help from us & can take 2 or 3 steps with light support.  We think it is likely that she will eventually walk!!!
